Aromatherapy

What is Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the application of essential oils to open the body to healing through stimulating its senses. Essential oils represent the soul of the plant that they are extracted from and are the most concentrated form of herbal energy.

The most effective ways to use essential oils are through external application, (i.e lotions, body oils etc) or through inhalation, (i.e on a tissue, in a steamed bath or oil burner etc)

Aromatherapy works on two levels, the psychological aspect of the mind and the physical aspect of the body. It works particularly well as a prophylactic measure but is an extremely effective form of treatment for most illnesses.

History of Aromatherapy
The Egyptians, the people of early India, the Chinese and the Greek Romans all used essential oils for health and well being dating back as early as 5000BC.

However Aromatherapy as a science was only developed early last century. It came about when a French chemist, Rene-Maurice Gattefosse burnt himself one day while working in his lab. Gattefosse thrust his burnt hand into a container of neat lavender oil and gained almost instant relief. In days to follow his hand did not present with all the normal signs of a vicious burn and healed remarkably quickly leaving no scar. Gattefosse was so intrigued by this he dedicated the rest of his life to what he named "Aromatherapy".
